I already knew I was tough. There was no need to prove it to anyone...but let's go back to the beginning of April when we found out the Warrior Dash race was coming to Kansas City the end of July. It is a 5k race with 12 obstacles throughout the course. Obstacles such as jumping over fire, running through waist deep water (but waist deep on whom?!), crawling through mud, and much more. Some friends thought this sounded like so much fun. I, on the other hand, thought this sounded like so much fun to watch! Come on now, I don't even like to camp. Why would I pay money to crawl through mud and get dirty? Okay, so maybe I'm not as tough as I would like to think. ha! I was telling Dad one afternoon about this race and that Rose and Jen had signed up for it and how I had no intention of running the race but would be there as a cheerleader. His exact words to me were "oh, just step out of your comfort zone and run the race." I went back to work after my lunch break and registered for the race! This was the beginning of April which meant I had about four months to train for this race. I had good intentions of training for this race, really...but they never really panned out. I did a little running here and there throughout the past few months, nothing much. I thought I should do more training, but that never really happened. I wasn't so sure I was going to survive this race. I thought that I could run a 5k, but that I might be too girly when it came to having to run through water and mud...
Race day arrived....and keep in mind that it has been super HOT these past few weeks. Luckily, we had registered for the 9:00 am heat so we were hoping it wasn't going to be too bad. Rose and I got to the race, both a little unsure what we had gotten ourselves into, especially after seeing how tall one of the obstacles was when we arrived. However, we were there, we had signed up and we had told a lot of people we were running this race, so we HAD to complete it!
9:00 am arrives and the start of the Kansas City Warrior Dash....we were off (along with 498 other people in that heat!). The running was going fine and we got to the first obstacle where we had to jump over hurdles and crawl under barbed wire. For being short, I'm pretty good at getting over hurdles. One obstacle done, eleven more to go...it wasn't too bad. I was actually starting to enjoy myself! The trail was muddy and slick because it had rained earlier in the morning, but I didn't think it was too bad. I like trail running better than road running. We kept running and completing obstacles and with each obstacle completed, the more fun I was having. The race ends by having to jump over two fire pits and then crawl through mud under barbed wire. Yup, I can admit to being the girl who is too girly and high maintenance to camp but I'll pay to crawl through mud and get dirty and actually like it! The Warrior Dash was a ton of fun!! I would definitely do it again if I have the chance! Thanks, Dad, for giving me that little push to step outside of my comfort zone. I still don't think I'll go camping, but sign me up for another Warrior Dash!
I survived the Warrior Dash!!

Almost done...here is proof that I crawled through mud
Out of the mud pit and almost to the finish line!

After getting hosed off a little to get all the mud off...

You ARE a warrior!! But I think I'll stick to regular 5K's. Congratulations to both of you.
